CD Projekt RED confirmed that owners of copies of Cyberpunk 2077 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be able to launch the game on next-generation consoles on the day of their release. However, a special technical update of the action for new systems will be released later — it will be free.

The Polish Studio also confirmed that owners of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 will not have to buy a copy for PS5. Developers have previously reported that this system will also work on Microsoft consoles.
CD Projekt RED:
“We are pleased to announce that Cyberpunk 2077 will support backward compatibility on both next-generation consoles. Your copy of the game for PS4 will work on the PS5 on the day of release. Anyone who buys a game on Xbox One will also be able to launch it on Xbox Series X when the console goes on sale!

The Cyberpunk 2077 update, which will unleash the full power of the next-generation consoles in the game, will also be distributed for free.”

Previously, CD Projekt RED moved the release of Cyberpunk 2077 from September 17 to November 19. The developers explained this decision as a desire to improve the balance and eliminate bugs. The release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is expected at the end of 2020 — the manufacturers did not give exact dates.
